1st Community Workshop in Athens

The first CARE Community Workshop was successfully held in Athens, organised by our partner Cities for Cycling, in an open and participatory environment that encouraged dialogue and collaboration.

Hosted at the Technopolis Café of the Municipality of Athens, the workshop brought together older adults, volunteers and cycling experts to exchange experiences and ideas on how to make cycling safer and more accessible for seniors.

Through interactive discussions and group work, participants explored the main barriers older adults face when cycling, including safety concerns, infrastructure gaps, confidence issues and access to suitable equipment. Together, they co-developed practical and locally relevant solutions.

  • Senior-friendly cycling routes were mapped for different skill levels
  • Future CARE Cafés were identified as meeting, rest and social interaction points
  • Ways to strengthen community engagement and volunteer involvement were discussed

This workshop marked a strong first step towards safer, more inclusive and more social cycling for older adults in Greece.
