CARE encourages older adults to engage in regular, safe, and enjoyable cycling activities that support mobility, cardiovascular health, and overall physical wellbeing. By promoting cycling as a low-impact and accessible form of exercise, the project helps seniors remain active, independent, and confident in their daily lives. These activities contribute to healthier ageing and reduced sedentary behaviour among older populations.
The Project brings seniors together with younger volunteers through shared cycling sessions and social activities that promote interaction, trust, and mutual learning. By creating opportunities for meaningful intergenerational exchange, CARE helps combat loneliness and social exclusion among older adults. At the same time, it strengthens community cohesion and fosters empathy across generations.
CARE establishes local cycling hubs and CARE Cafés that function as welcoming and age-friendly meeting points for seniors. These spaces offer opportunities to rest, socialise, and participate in group activities before or after cycling sessions. By linking cafés, municipalities, and cycling groups, the project creates visible and sustainable community networks that support active ageing.
Through structured outdoor cycling programmes and regular social participation, CARE supports both the mental and physical wellbeing of older adults. Participation in the project helps improve confidence, mood, and overall life satisfaction, while reducing stress and feelings of isolation. The combination of physical activity and social connection plays a key role in promoting holistic health in later life.
CARE promotes cycling as a sustainable, inclusive, and age-friendly mode of transport within urban and local environments. The project encourages communities and local authorities to adopt senior-friendly cycling infrastructure and mobility policies aligned with the EU Green Deal. In doing so, CARE supports greener cities while ensuring that active mobility remains accessible to all generations.
